SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS & GRANTS
The Foundation provides funding in the form of Scholarships and Awards to individuals and Grants to Institutions. The Foundation selection board will assess applicants annually in conjunction with representatives of the schools, colleges and institutions we support as part of their selection process on the combined basis of merit and financial need. Financial support will cover course fees and associated costs and will be reviewed on an annual basis.
The Foundation seeks to maintain high professional standards and our affiliated learning establishments must, by the requirements of the Charities Commission, meet requisite standards of governance - legally constituted, equality, diversity and child protection policies in place, and comply with all statutory laws and regulations relating to the work they deliver.
Applicants must meet the relevant criteria of the respective institution. The Foundation prioritises financial aid to certain institutions which to date have included the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, ArtsEd, Royal Academy of Dance, The Royal Ballet School & LAMDA. Specific awards include the Dame Gillian Lynne Scholarship at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and the Lynne & Land Foundation Bursaries at ArtsEd.
All these schools are known and respected for their high level of teaching standards and professionalism in the field of performing arts, providing creative and supportive environments for learning and development.
The Foundation is also helping to support the Laurence Olivier Bursaries programme, established by the Society of London Theatres (SOLT) in 1987 to mark Laurence Olivier’s 80th birthday, and which provides financial support to a number of exceptional students from schools across the UK who are entering their final year of drama studies. 2024 saw the creation of the Gillian Lynne Bursary Award as part of the Olivier Bursaries programme.
Applications for funding should be made directly through the institution you wish to attend - please see links below.
Funding priorities for the year 2023/24 have now been allocated. Please note that applications made directly to the Foundation will not be considered.
The Foundation Trustees are examining ways of supporting students continuing their education and training at other institutions and will publish further information at a future date.
